i work at a restaurant. and my weekly paycheck is nothing like you would expect. meaning its a lot lower than minimum wage. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF YOUR TIPS!
so when you come in. and you get a good server. and you go wow she was good. imma give her an extra dollar. which makes ur total tip 4.00 => your killing me here. i work my butt off [with no break somedays] to serve you. sometimes im hungry as balls sprinkling cheese over your spaghetti. and you only give me 4.00!!!!! and theres 5 people at your table! oh helllll no. when stuff like that happens. that when we stop serving well.
word to the wise. if you act like you're not going to tip well from the first 3 minutes of our conversation. we already know that we're not gonna be as quickly as we should. we don't ask if you need anything. we don't care. because we already know not to expect anything.
im upset because yesterday i had a table of 4 young women. first of all i couldn't even introduce myself properly before they started blabbing out their drink orders. now its one thing for all 4 women to want one drink. its another when they all want their drink. as well as a water. a plate of lemons [not in their glass] and some how bring out a little cup of the syrup that we use to make our special tea. WTF....anyways. i bring that. and before im finished handing out straws they are yelling out food orders. AT THE SAME TIME! like im superwoman. so i write it all down. of course they don't want the big bowl of salad they are supposed to get. they all have special requests and would like 3 different bowls each made differently. ALSO extra veggies that we throw on the salad. on separate plates. [mind you this is all going to get mixed in your salad a**hole]
anyways. they complained about their food. how it wasn't enough. so i took the time to get an extra side plate made [on the house] for them. THEY DIDNT EVEN SAY THANK YOU. they commented that they were full. wtf. i bring them the check. they leave. they also leave with NO TIP. not even the stinkin %15 youre supposed to. because of that table and all of their requests. i was giving them too much attention. not paying enough attention to my other tables. which made them want to give me less tip as well...its a chain reaction here. overall. i didn't make good money yesterday. i walked out my job with $75. on a normal sunday with a steady flow of guests that all tip fairly well. i leave my job with $90+
$20 may not be a lot. but when it happens often. and you have a phone bill, a speeding ticket, you need to get an oil change, and your saving up to pay for your own college tution. those $20s add up....
all im saying is. if you've never been any type of server before. talk to someone who is. understand our struggle. know that we are people with bills too. and please please please be polite if not anything. not tipping well is one thing. but being a rude ass person is another...
key things
-don't shake your glass at me if its empty. we both have eyes. i can see its empty. how do you know im not coming to ask if you would like another of your drink or if you wanted to try something new.
-let me introduce myself before you start shouting out your order.
-please don't say 'good girl' or 'good job' when i do a specific request of yours correctly. it gets under my skin....badddd.
-and finally. if you don't like somthing tell me. don't wait till after you get the bill complain. shoot the restaurant up and ask for a manger. it makes us think your just tryna get a free meal.
*trust me, if youre nice about it. and tell me as soon as you don't like something. you'll get a whole lot more than a free meal.
thank you for listening...
